VBCA Newsletter - September 2008
I will start this news letter by extending our congratulations to David Gauci on his election as 5th Executive member at our AGM held in August.
Also congratulations to Colin Pierce on his life membership of the V.B.C.A. and our thanks for all the work Colin has done for Blind Cricket over many years, and continues to do.
Members are reminded that our season commences on Saturday October 4th and we will be conducting a season opening barbecue post game on that day.
It is hoped that we will be able to advise a venue and cost for the 2008-09 presentation within a week or so of the season commencing to allow you to prepare your calendars, and to purchase your tickets well in advance as we sincerely hope that we can have more than 56 people attend this years event.
A player registration meeting will be held this Saturday from 10.30am at the Charlie Bradley Pavilion.
As it is a prerequisite of the V.B.C.A. constitution that membership forms must be completed at the beginning of each season, not to mention that we need to have signed record of all players (which for reasons of privacy) are only accessible to the Secretary and President, must also be made available to our insurance company on request should there be a claim by any player.
There is a section on the registration form which asks whether you have any medical conditions or medications, and even if you haven’t this section must be filled in with the word NONE if you have no medical conditions or medications, and the form MUST be signed.
Forms are available on the V.B.C.A. website.
Please remember that we are always seeking new players and volunteers for Blind Cricket, and although the Executive are taking steps to obtain players and volunteers, you should all be on the lookout as well.
I am hopeful that we will have 2 new umpires this season, and I have had a phone call from one person expressing interest in playing Blind Cricket.
Emails were sent to Di Hayward at Vision Australia, and the Whitehorse City Council which have resulted in a response from one of the potential umpires, along with Blind Cricket being advertised more widely than ever, on sites such as Yooralla.
Thanks to Nick Pepper, his friend Paul, Tim Mitchell and Colin Pierce for the work they have all done on doing the work necessary to make our pitches playable again after the re covering was completed.
We are hoping to have a social game between ourselves and the Primary Club of Victoria sometime in December which will be the return match of the Blind Ducks cup.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any suggestions for functions or fundraising activities we can consider in future.
Alf O’Neill
President
