Round 2 – Glenferrie B.C.C. v St. Paul's B.C.C.

Glenferrie took on St. Paul’s on Ground 1.  Brett Wilson won the toss for St. Paul’s and elected to bat first.  Paul Ravenarki got St. Paul’s off to a flying start, quickly reaching 43 and retiring.  The much improved Sophea Seng bowled Glen Pierce for a duck and then Tim Mitchell was also bowled for a duck by Ian Walsh.  Lindsay Heaven batted very well and retired on 41.

The Glenferrie bowlers, most of whom took a wicket, held steady and the innings was wrapped up for 152 with excellent support from the fieldsmen which generated one run-out.  Both Kevin Begg and Kingsley Williams took 2/5.

Ty Atkinson and Marco Curralejo opened the batting for Glenferrie.  Ty was dismissed early by the bowling of Brett Wilson for 10 and Marco followed shortly on 6.  Ben Peacock then stepped up to the crease but didn’t last long getting bowled by Paul Ravenarki for 1.  Kingsley Williams became the rock of the innings for the Lions reaching 30 before he was bowled by Brett Wilson.

The Saints continued to take wickets freely, dismissing Glenferrie for a disappointing 76.  Garry Stinchcombe (3/25) was the star with the ball and Paul Ravenarki returned 3/6.

Glenferrie failed to avoid the follow-on and were sent into bat again by Brett Wilson.  Bill Kelly returning from a break from cricket opened up the Glenferrie second innings with Marco.  Keen to prevent St. Paul’s from gaining an outright win and 10 points, the Glenferrie batsmen were very defensive and after 18 overs both Captains agreed to call the game off about 1 hour ahead of the scheduled finish time.  Bill Kelly was not out on 13 and Marco not out on 1.

St. Paul’s got 4 points for the comfortable first innings win.

Round 2 – Institute B.C.C. v Burwood B.C.C.

Institute, upon winning the toss, put Burwood in to bat.  Burwood opened the batting solidly with David Gauci reaching 40 runs and Scott Peucker contributing 22.  The lower order for Burwood failed to capitalise on their good start and after 26.1 overs Burwood was all-out for 108.  Tony Montesanti was the most reliable of the Institute bowlers taking 1/22 off 8 overs including 1 maiden and Greg Ingram performed well taking 1/17 off 4 overs.

Rin Pas and Danny Keogh opened the batting for Institute.  Rin Pas, returning to his old Club Institute after a stint with Kooyong made 24 runs until he was run out.  Institute then had a major batting collapse with Andrew Close out LBW for 4, Tony Montesanti bowled by David Goodman for 1, Felmore Banquesio bowled by Chris Baille for 0 and Greg Ingram run out on 0.  Institute was all-out for a dismal 53 after 23 overs.

Chris Baille and David Goodman performed the best out of the Burwood bowlers with Chris taking 1/24 off 8 overs and David taking 1/5 off 4 overs.

Institute failed to avoid the follow-on and were sent into bat again by Burwood.  Rin Pas and Institute Captain, Paul Annable opened the batting.  Paul Annable was bowled for a duck by Chris Baille and at the close of play on day 1 Institute was 1/6.

At the start of day 2, Institute, which can’t take a trick with players un-available, lost Rin Pas to a virus and Felmore Banquesio due to train cancellations.  The middle and lower-order for Institute collapsed and Institute was all-out for 29 after 25 overs.

Brian Talbot was devastating with the ball taking 4/8 off 6 overs while David Goodman contributed with 1/4 and Chris Baille 1/9.

Burwood achieved an outright result and with 10 points and moved to the top of the ladder.
