Round 5 – St. Paul's B.C.C. v Glenferrie B.C.C. - Day 2
Late afternoon shot of a very dry Ground 2 - Saturday 16th December, 2006. |
Glenferrie resumed their 1st innings on 8/136 after 28 overs on a very fast ground and in conditions which favored the batsmen. Knowing that a declaration would occur at the end of 35th over, the Glenferrie batsmen came out with a mindset of playing some shots and attempting some bold running between the wickets. As expected, this approach did not lend itself to wicket preservation and Glenferrie's last remaining batsmen were bowled out after 6.1 overs with the score at 11/166 and a lead of 126 runs. When play resumed after the change of innings, St. Paul's faced the forlorn task of trying to preserve it's wickets for the remainder of the day and prevent an outright victory to Glenferrie. |
St. Paul's opened their batting with Glen Pierce and Justin Smit. The pair displayed some great defensive batting until Glen Pierce was trapped LBW just before tea off the bowling of Ian Walsh. A patient Glenferrie side resumed after tea with the aim of claiming more wickets and the introduction of Ty Atkinson into the bowling attack soon returned dividends. Ty took 3/6 off 3 overs and Peter Hyszca chipped in with 1/3 off 4 overs. St. Paul's was all-out for 30 runs by approximately 3:45 pm. Justin Smit showed great stamina for St. Paul's batting for 27.2 overs and showing a sign of things to come. Glenferrie obtained a comfortable 10 points for the outright victory and move to top position on the ladder with a total of 28 points.

Round 5 – St. Paul's B.C.C. v Glenferrie B.C.C. - Day 1
St. Paul's entered the game minus Garry Stinchcombe, Lindsay Heaven, Paul Ravenarki and Brett Wilson, representing Australia at the World Cup in Pakistan. Glenferrie was also without Captain Chris Stevens. Chris Strasinski who was acting Captain for St. Paul's lost the toss and was sent into bat by Ty Atkinson. In trying conditions as a result of high temperatures and smoky conditions due the bush fires, St. Paul's battled to reach 40 runs on a fast and dry looking Ground 2, which perhaps had promised a much larger total. Lalith Donikkuhewa who was struggling with a back injury was highest scorer for St. Paul's with 11. Peter Hyszca bowled an excelled 5 overs to finish with 2 for 3 while Sophia Seng finished with 1 for 15 off his 5 overs. |
Glenferrie started strongly in it's first innings and is currently 8/136. Both Kingsley Williams and Ty Atkinson retired scoring 40's. Glenferrie has faced 28 overs and I imagine a declaration will be forthcoming in pursuit of outright points next week.

Round 5 – Burwood B.C.C. v Institute B.C.C. - Day 1
What had the potential to be the clash of the round turned out to be a fizzer, as Burwood only managed 5 players and Institute was bolstered with the return of Matthew Horsey and Brent Franklin.
Burwood was sent into bat by Institute and was all-out for 36 runs. Scott Peucker contributed a solid 23 not out and David Goodman made 11 runs before he was caught by Matthew Horsey. Tony Montesanti produced some excellent bowling taking 2 for 12 off his 7 overs and Matthew Horsey contributed 1 for 12 off 6 overs. Robert Mascitti was also valuable taking 1/6 off his 2.4 overs.
In reply, Institute made 170 in their first innings. Matthew Horsey opened the batting and made 41 runs off 7 balls. Rin Pas also retired on 40 runs. Tony Montesanti made 25 and was bowled by David Goodman.
Manny Tzouziakis bowled 7 overs in the high temperatures and ended with 1/68. Brendan Fox was excellent producing some great bowling and ended with 3/48 off his 9 overs. David Goodman was his usual best getting 2/9 off 4.2 overs.
Faced with the prospect of returning next week with even less players, Burwood Captain David Goodman declared Burwood's second inning's and thus giving Institute an early Christmas present with it's first 10 points for the season.
