Rain soaked pitch on Ground 1

Rain soaked pitch on Ground 1 - Saturday 20th January, 2007.

Glenferrie consolidated top-spot on the ladder with a 1st innings victory over Institute in a rain-interrupted conclusion to Round 6.

Institute heaped the pressure on Glenferrie, who were chasing 116, with the dismissal of John Tongalea, David MacFarlane and Ty Atkinson all for low scores, Captain Chris Stevens needed to get some runs on the board.

With consistent rain falling and the umpires looking skyward, a rain affected conclusion to the game was a big possibility. Chris Stevens however looked poised at the crease and seemingly unhindered by the injury that forced his early retirement at the start of the innings. Chris executed some blistering shots, reaching an unbeaten 41 and steering Glenferrie to a 1st innings victory.

Despite missing out on any points, Institute was superb in the field and particular mention needs to go to Matthew Horsey who executed a brilliant catch to dismiss Ty Atkinson.

Tony Montesanti finished with 1-22 off 10 overs, Andrew Close was very economical finishing with 1-14 off 10, and Robert Mascitti 1-4 from his 7 overs.
