Round 7 – St. Paul's B.C.C. v Institute B.C.C. - Day 2
Players practicing on Ground 2 - Saturday 3rd February, 2007. |
Resuming at 1/19 in their 1st innings, Institute batsmen Brent Franklin and Robert Mascitti frustrated the St. Paul's bowlers in a very defensive batting display that did not see many runs on the board but used up valuable overs. Paul Ravenarki finally got the breakthrough when he snuck one through to bowl Brent Franklin on 5. Robert Mascitti soon followed when he was adjudged LBW off the bowling of Brett Wilson for 5. Tony Montesanti didn't last long as he was bowled by Lindsay Heaven for 0. Danny Keogh suffered a similar fate when he was run-out for 0. Natale Curtri was the third to go with no score when he was bowled by Paul Ravenarki. Matt Horsey arrived late but the timing couldn't be better. He didn't waste anytime and displayed some superb batting to reach an unbeaten 43 and help steer his team to 96 after 60 overs which signaled the end of Institute's 1st innings. For St. Paul's, young Lindsay Heaven bowled well to return 1/9 off 9 overs, Paul Ravenarki finished with 2/7 off his 10 overs and Bruce Sandilands claimed 2/15. |
St. Paul's claimed 4 points for a 1st innings win but with plenty overs still left in the day they declared their 2nd innings at 0/0. Institute took to the crease requiring 74 for 6 points and St. Paul's attempting to bowl them out to claim an outright win and 10 points.
Things looked bright for St. Paul's when key run machine Matt Horsey was run out on 27 by a remarkable throw by Brett Wilson. The rest of the Institute batsmen collapsed with no one reaching double-figures. Robert Mascitti and Andrew Close stood strong at the end of the innings to prevent an outright result to St. Paul's. At stumps Institute was 8/51. This total included 5 wide's and 11 no-balls.
Paul Ravenarki absolutely mesmerized the Institute batsmen to claim 5 wickets for 3 runs from 6 overs. Chris Bertuch bowled well to take 1/8 off 4 overs and Bruce Sandilands claimed 1/5 off 3 overs.
St. Paul's are only 2 points behind ladder leaders Glenferrie.
Round 7 – Burwood B.C.C. v Glenferrie B.C.C. - Day 2
In pursuit of a modest target of 86, Glenferrie suffered a reality check, and some.
None of the Glenferrie batsmen managed double-figures with the exception of Captain Chris Stevens who was bowled by David Goodman for 24. Glenferrie was all-out for 80 at 2:55pm and handed Burwood 4 points for a 1st innings win.
For Burwood, Captain David Goodman bowled well to return 5/9, Peucker finished with 3/9 and Marilyn Luck claimed 1/18.
With a couple of hours of cricket left in the day Burwood commenced their 2nd innings. David Gauci put last week's LBW dismissal behind him to make 17 before he was caught by Sophia Seng. Peucker threw away a well deserved 40 when he run out of puff and was run out on 36. Goodman was not-out on 28. With Burwood posting 106 runs on the board both Captains agreed to call the game off 1 over ahead of the scheduled finish time.
Sophia Seng was the best of the Glenferrie bowlers claiming 2/8. Chris Stevens contributed 1/15, Walsh 1/14 and Calder 1/25.
Burwood moved off bottom spot on the ladder after getting 4 points for the 1st innings win.
Round 7 – St. Paul's B.C.C. v Institute B.C.C. - Day 1
In a clash of a couple of former finalists, Institute entered the game minus Matthew Horsey and St. Paul's was missing Garry Stinchcombe. The St. Paul's openers, Ravenarki and Bertuch, went about their business in the usual manner with 'Rav' quickly reaching double-figures. Chris Bertuch was dismissed on 4 when he was bowled by Robert Mascitti. 'Straz' was the next batsmen and consolidated the St. Paul's innings, in a stand with 'Rav' that lasted several overs, before 'Straz' was run-out on 13 and shortly followed by Ravenarki who retired unbeaten on 43. Lindsay Heaven then took to the crease and looked solid and was joined by Sam Byrne. Lindsay didn't hesitate in taking a single to reach his 40 and then retired. Tim Mitchell was in some rare batting form and made 18 before he was run-out. Brett Wilson was not-out on 28 which is sure to boost his average and Bruce Sandilands was also not-out on 1. St. Paul's declared their 1st innings at 6/169 after 35 overs included in this total were 11 leg-byes and 5 no-balls.
Wickets were shared, with Paul Annable (1/58) and Robert Mascitti (1/22) leading the way.
With several overs still remaining in the day, Institute was forced to open their innings with the bat. Rin Pas was bowled for 3 by Bruce Sandilands. Institute ended the day on 1/19 with Brent Franklin and Robert 'Moose' Mascitti' the not-out batsmen.
Round 7 – Burwood B.C.C. v Glenferrie B.C.C. - Day 1
Burwood lost the toss and was sent into bat by Glenferrie. An undermanned Burwood side took the opportunity to introduce another debutante, Daniel Searle who traveled from Albury to play. Runs came slowly for Burwood as Chris Stevens bowled a very good spell and he eventually dismissed David Gauci when he was controversially adjudged LBW for only 1. Ben Peacock removed Chris Baille not long after and was soon followed Amy Lee-Archer when she was also bowled by Peacock for 2.
Brian Talbot joined Marilyn Luck at the crease to ease their team to a respectable score. Brian Talbot ended the 1st innings for Burwood not-out on 19 and Burwood was all-out 86. Included in this score were 4 leg-byes, 20 wide's and 23 no-balls.
Chris Stevens (4/14) grabbed some late wickets and Peacock claimed 2/3 off 2 overs.
Ty Atkinson opened up the batting for Glenferrie in it's 1st innings. Perhaps knowing that he was not going to be available the next week he was bowled by Scott Peucker for 9 after attempting some lusty hitting including a massive 6 that hit the window of the Vision Australia building. He was soon joined by Marco Curralejo who was bowled by Amy Lee-Archer for 1 and then by Peter Hysca was adjudged LBW off the bowling of Goodman for 4 runs. At stumps on Day 1, Glenferrie was 3/25.
