The Victorian Blind Cricket Association (VBCA) is seeking 1-2 umpires for the 2018-19 season.
The game of Blind Cricket has been played for almost 100 years in Victoria at the Charlie Bradley Pavilion, which is at the rear of Vision Australia (454 Glenferrie Road, Kooyong VIC 3144) opposite the Kooyong Tennis Stadium.
Blind Cricket is played with a hard white plastic ball, which is slightly larger than a normal (red) cricket ball and has holes in it so sound can be released from the bottle tops and led weights when bowled. Bowling is underarm only. There are also other specific rules to make the game fair and equitable for all players, as teams are made up of players with varying degrees of vision loss. The VBCA will provide necessary training in the specific rules for Blind Cricket
The VBCA organises a domestic competition in which four (4) clubs participate. The format of the domestic competition comprises:
– each club playing each other twice in a season, with games spread over 2 consecutive Saturday afternoons
– games commence at 1:00 pm and conclude at 5:15, with a minimum of 55 overs to be bowled in a day, and
– the season commences on 20th October 2018 to 22nd December 2018, and re-commences on 9th February 2019.
